Alternative Sanitizer, but not so new research.

During a pandemic, fear is the most common symptom that people experience whether rational or not. So how do you decide what health tricks and tips you follow? and which ones you let go? I have decided for me and my family that our goal during this time is to strive for a vital immune system and practical distancing and disinfecting. Since no one in my immediate family has the co-morbidity factors (meaning health conditions that make you at risk of dying) we need to focus on not being a vector for spreading to others. The goal in life is to not never get sick, but to only do it occasionally and mildly when you do get ill.

Masks are a part of our everyday reality like it or not and disinfecting your hands and masks is also part of that. We are using sanitizer that was researched 75 year ago and shown effective on virus, fungus and bacteria. It has recently been brought back to public awareness by a Dr. Youngberg from Temecula, CA by using it in a spray bottle on any surface, it sanitizes those areas , It is also used spraying it on your face in and up your nostrils. (Please make sure to test on a small part of your body before using it on your face 1% of the population is allergic to iodine).

This amazing sanitizer is not bleach (can’t spray that up your nose) it is potassium iodine at 150mcg (by Biotics research called Iodine forte). We have placed it into a spray atomizer bottle in my office and we now use it when we go anywhere or even after we have been using our masks that are fabric. I spray my hands and face every day after I leave the office and have made sure all the staff in my office have a bottle to keep themselves and families safe.

See the research article exerp: “In 1945, Burnet and Stone found that putting iodine on mice snouts prevented the mice from being infected with lethal levels of live influenza virus in mists. They suggested that impregnating masks with iodine would help stop viral spread [ideally spray on outside of N95 or N99 masks and let dry before use]. They also recommended that medical personnel have iodine-aerosol-treated rooms for examination and treatment of highly infective patients. Oral iodine might also boost body defense mechanisms in the upper oral and respiratory mucus. Conclusion: Iodine incorporated into masks, solutions, aerosols, and oral preparations could help to kill influenza viruses and fight off an H1N1 Pandemic.”

“Iodine: The Forgotten Weapon Against Influenza Viruses” David Derry, MD, PhD, in the medical journal Thyroid Science 4(9):R1-5, 2009. Dr. Derry documented that “Iodine was the most effective agent for killing viruses, especially influenza viruses. Aerosol iodine was found to kill viruses in sprayed mists, and solutions of iodine were equally effective.

Check out the picture of the bottle we use: simply split the Iodine Forte into an atomizer amber bottle and place in your purse and start spraying when out and about or at risk. Dr. Youngberg also recommends using it to spray into your mouth 1-2x a day and into the nasal passage 1-2x a day. It will also break up mucus and congestion as well as kill the viruses and bacteria.
